Alright,
So I wanted to practice quoting on photography jobs that were different than the usual event coverage, portraiture and architecture that I do. So I went to Facebook to ask my friends to create fake jobs for me to quote on… this will from here on out be known as “my first mistake”… You can see what they asked below (I did not redact their names…that’s what they get for making these damn suggestions in the first place);
*Disclaimer; there was some HEAVY usage of Google and guesswork for some of the more random requests so all these figures might not be spot on (referenced where possible).*
Erik Price “i want to shoot a ferrari on location. that location? the moon.”
Go big or go home I would try and shoot this whole thing in one frame so we’re going to moon Alice!
Ferrari 458 Italia $233,859.00
Transportation to the Moon breakdown (it costs $50,000/1 Lb to take something to the moon):
Photographer (195 lbs) $9,750,000
Assistant (195 lbs) $9,750,000
Gear (63 lbs) $3,150,000
Ferrari (3042 lbs) $152,100,000
Shooting fee breakdown:
Photographer Travel Fee (3 days there, three days back) $13,035
Assistant (6 days of travel, 1 shooting day @ $300/day ) $2,100
Creative Fee (7 days pre-production/training, 1 shooting day, 3 days of post production) $30,415
Total cost of the shoot, not including usage: $175,029,409.00
Edgar Alejandro “An obese boudoir shoot of myself in the middle of the Olympic torch. Price it. Now.”
You might remember my friend Edgar from a recent cycling shoot. He is approximately 6′ tall and 180 lbs. To reach an “obese level” he would have be 227-295 and gain 47-115 lbs. I say either go big or go home so 115 lbs it is. Apparently you can gain 2-3 pounds/week so that would take 38 weeks or ~9 months to get to “obese”
Nutritional Consultant ($28.20/hour) $42,864
Personal Chef ($33.75/hour) $51,300
Olympic Torch Area Photography Permit $356.00
Photographers Creative Fee: $4345.00
Rental Gear $2,600
Assistant $300.00
Makeup Artist $500
Stylist $600
Total cost of the shoot, not including food or usage: $102,509.00
Leigh Dasilva “take photos of me wingsuiting out of a 747 flyover of new york city”
For this I would not want to endanger Leigh’s life….despite the fact he gave me this suggestion in the first place so I’d hire a stuntman to jump from the plane with me and then shoot leigh in a wind tunnel close to home.
Photographer Travel Fee: $6,517.50
Assistant (4 days at $300/day) $1,200
Airplane Flyover of New York $328,835
Photographers Creative Fee: $8,690.00
Stunt Coordinator $1,300
Stuntman $800 (x 2) $1,600
Flyzone Studio Rental $5,000
Total cost of the shoot not including food or usage: $353,142.00
So there you have it folks, three ridiculous quotes…
